Orthopedic Specialists in Palm Harbor, FL continues to serve community with help of G.E. Walker, Inc.

Orthopedic Specialists, an early adopter of direct radiography digital detectors, recently upgraded their DR platform from tethered flat panel detectors to the latest advancements in digital radiography solution by Rayence USA.  With the addition of Xmaru wireless cesium detectors, Orthopedic Specialists continues to take the lead in the highest quality of patient care. With this upgrade, it allows the providers at Orthopedic Specialists to better serve each and every one of their patients by advancing the level of diagnostic and clinical care.

A Rayence Xmaru 14×17 wireless digital detector coupled with an Xmaru 17×17 detector was installed in the facility’s imaging suite to help the practice meet the healthcare needs of their community.  The additions this new digital platform offers better image quality at lower doses, and through shorter examination times, less wait time for the patient.  Additionally, this translates into lower operating costs at the facility.

Medicare to Reduce Payment for CR Imaging Studies in 2018

Avoid the Impact of Reduced Payments

Solutions to meet your clinical needs in the face of the CAA

FAQ

  • What did Congress change with respect to radiography?

In an attempt to incentivize facilities that provide x-ray services to purchase digital radiography equipment, H.R. 2029 outlined a gradual series of reimbursement reductions to both analog/film radiography and computed radiography

  • When will the reimbursement changes take place?

Reimbursement for x-rays taken with plain film would be reduced by 20 percent in 2017 and all subsequent years. Reimbursement for computed radiography would be reduced by 7 percent between 2018 and 2022, followed by a 10 percent reduction in 2023 and all subsequent years.

  • How does this affect me?

Using DR will result in higher reimbursement rates than film X-Ray and CR starting in 2017

  • How is Computed Radiography (CR) defined?

CR is cassette-based digital imaging modality that uses an imaging plate

  • Will an upgrade of a current system meet requirements?

Yes. The idea is to promote the use of DR. The law does not mandate the replacement of the X-Ray Generator, only the imaging capture device

  • What Should I do now?

Contact a dedicated specialist from G.E. Walker to discuss your solutions today!

How to Keep Your DR Flat Panel Detectors Happy & Healthy

Category : Uncategorized

Here are some tips from the Pro’s at G.E. Walker to maximize the useful lifetime of your new DR flat panel detectors.

Handling

  •  Do not do hit the DR plate with repetitive high energy raw radiation.
  • Careless handling and very dirty environments can shorten the useful lifetime of an digital imaging detector
  • Consider extending the life of your grid investment with an encasement. Designed to reduce the chance of incidental grid damage from atypical handling. With sleek designs and curved corners, PAG (Protect-a-Grid) detector accessories can be easily slid under patients and/or stood upright for cross-table examinations. Additionally, PAG’s come with and without handles based on clinical preference.  Handles greatly minimize the risk of detector drops and potential damage.
  • When there is a risk of fluids contacting the detector, place the detector in a protective bag to prevent contamination and potential damage to the detector. If you are using a protective enclosure around the detector, remove the enclosure immediately after use to prevent the detector from overheating.
  • When storing DR plate, store in either wall storage rack, in charger, or somewhere secure where the DR plate can be laid flat and cannot fall. Do not leave in Wall Stand for extended period of time.

Cleaning

  • Do not operate the equipment when cleaning the equipment.
  • Do not spray cleaning solution directly onto the equipment. Moisten a cloth with a 70 % isopropyl alcohol solution and apply to patient contact areas after each contact. Caution-Isopropyl alcohol is a flammable solvent. Read and follow instructions in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
  • Do not immerse the equipment in liquid
  • Consider purchasing approved clinical cleaning lint wipes.

System Maintenance

  • Do not attempt mechanical or electrical repair of the System. The System must be repaired only by authorized service personnel
  • Contact authorized service personnel at G.E. Walker, Inc. if any unit does not perform to your satisfaction. The System must be maintained in good operating order at all times to provide safe conditions for technician and patients. The System must also be maintained to prevent possible loss of patient or image data.
  • Daily:
    • Clean the equipment. Check the equipment integrity. Perform Daily Refresh Calibration if required. Report any unusual conditions to your authorized G.E. Walker service representative.

Recently, new aggressive IT Security attacks have been discovered that have impacted over 10,000 organizations in over 150 countries. These new threats have made it extremely important to review the current state of IT Security on each Digital Imaging Device in use at your locations.  Below are some preventive measure that should be applied with every system for maximum protection:

•          Use only supported operating systems and applications.

•          Ensure the latest virus definitions are installed for anti-virus software products.

•          All computers in the facility should be running the latest, manufacturer supported Operating Systems with up to date software and security updates.

•          Each customer site location should have a hardware based Network Security Firewall with ports closed to block any unwanted inbound traffic.

•          Implore user education to system use, preventing visits to unknown websites and web traffic.

•          Implement backup procedures that create more frequent “recovery points” to limit the amount of lost data if you need to recover your data from backups.

Our Service Team is here to ensure that your equipment continuously functions at peak efficiency to facilitate the delivery of optimal patient care for your organization.

What to think about when upgrading Your X-Ray Room

Category : Uncategorized

The task of replacing an X-Ray room can be overwhelming. Factors such as 750 pound overhead tube cranes and lead lined walls to contain X-Ray scatter will need to be considered. Also, considerations such as digital detector technology, image quality, software functionality, image archiving and management through PACS solutions, DICOM compliance, backup and disaster recovery, practice management integration, and follow up service and technical support, are topics that must be considered at some point in the purchase. The key to avoid becoming overwhelmed is to approach the purchase systematically and have an imaging solutions partner you can trust. Below is a guideline that can help you confidently make a decision when deciding to upgrade your imaging room.

Before designing or modifying an imaging room, there are some key questions that must be answered:

  • What is the patient population? Will they be adults, pediatrics, elderly, others? What is the specific clinical specialty? The room should be designed to meet their particular needs.
  • What other special requirements, such as space requirements, pathology specific testing (long-length imaging transformers), and power requirements does the room need to support?
  • How many x-rays do you currently do per day and how many do you anticipate doing per day in the near future?
  • Do you have an existing x-ray room with equipment that needs to be replaced?
  • If the X-Ray equipment is replacing an existing x-ray room, what are the room dimensions? Including ceiling height, existing power and its location, and conduits for wiring?
  • If you do not have an existing x-ray room and are planning to build one, is it new construction or a remodel of an existing suite?
  • What is the available power in the building?
  • Will renovations or changes to the room be required to facilitate the new equipment?
  • Are you interested in CR digital imaging or DR digital detector imaging?
  • Will you need a PACS, mini-PACS or off-site storage? Where, when and how would you like to view your images?  Will you be sending out images for over reads?
  • What is the length of the warranty?
  • What does the warranty cover?
  • Does it include drop rider protection?
  • What’s the cost of replacement parts?
  • How quickly can parts be replaced?
  • What kind of maintenance is expected?
  • What is the cost for maintenance?
  • What is the generator size?
  • What is the resolution and sensitivity of the system (image quality indicator)?
  • How long to renovate your existing room and install your new equipment?
  • Will you need temporary x-ray capability while you are renovating and installing?

Not sure how to answer these questions? The experts at G.E. Walker, Inc. can help walk you through any questions that you may have in order to help you find the best solution. Check out what they can offer you for imaging solutions by calling (800) 749-2483 or visiting www.gewalker.com.
